Year-long celebrations as Radio 4 turns 40

Hong Kong’s classical music and fine arts station has launched a special website to help celebrate its 40th birthday.

The site, http://app4.rthk.hk/special/r440/index.phpaims to give listeners insights into more than a dozen events planned to mark the occasion.

Launched in 1974 by public broadcaster RTHK,  Radio 4 broadcasts western classical, jazz, world, Chinese, and contemporary music and also features concert recordings, studio concerts, educational programmes and arts news.

Here are some of the event highlights:

June: New Generation Concerts / Match-making Concerts (featuring works by HK composers)

September: Music DJ @ Schools & Moonlight Serenade (a concert to celebrate also the Mid Autumn Festival)

October: RTHK Quartet 5th Anniversary Concert

November: Music Beyond Borders at New Vision Arts Festival

December: 40th Anniversary Concert & Christmas Concert in the Park (closing event).
