Climax for Radio 4 HK’s 40th birthday

Hong Kong’s classical music and fine arts station RTHK Radio 4’s year-long 40th birthday celebration will reach its climax next weekend.

Its 40th Anniversary Concert will take place at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall and will open with a world première of HK composer Richard Tsang’s ‘Commentaries’.

The work also includes two narrator parts which will be presented by Radio 4’s Jonathan Douglas and Kathy Lam.

The concert will also feature artists including Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Lawrence Foster, who will be joined by acclaimed percussionist Li Biao.

Radio 4 was launched in 1974 by public broadcaster RTHK and broadcasts western classical, jazz, world, Chinese, and contemporary music and also features concert recordings, studio concerts, educational programmes and arts news.

Earlier in the year, it launched a special website and organised a series of concerts to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
