MY FM India starts music election

Inspired by India’s upcoming general elections, 94.3MY FM has started a unique initiative called ‘Gaano Ki Sarkaar’, literally translated as Government of Songs.

The station says its new democracy movement will let listeners vote for the songs they want to hear on the air later this month.

Station RJ’s will go door-to-door urging people to pick their favourite songs in 17 cities where MY FM broadcasts.

Online and physical ballot boxes will be used to gather votes.

Voting lines will be open from April 7 to 20 April and the campaign will end with the elected playlist to be aired from April 24 to 31.

Speaking on the new initiative, Mr. Harrish M Bhatia CEO, 94.3 MY FM, radio business of the Dainik Bhaskar Group said: “The thought behind GAANO KI SARKAR programme is to create awareness about the right to vote amongst listeners.”

Viplove Gupte, National Programming head, added: “We are a true blue consumer-centric radio station. With ‘Gaano Ki Sarkaar’, we are trying to super-serve our listeners by involving them at step zero of creating the playlist.”
