Malaysia to promote Social Media ‘self-regulation’

The Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF) plans to launch a nationwide self-regulation awareness campaign themed ‘What you do sticks with you’.

The campaign, to be launched in May, will run up to the end of the year utilising all media including radio.

Officials say the primary target for the campaign is the 12 to 35 year old segment which has constant access to most forms of electronic media.

CMCF plans to support the campaign through a series of road shows and seminars.

It will also address the avenues available to the public to lodge complaints for offensive or objectionable content.

Ahmad Izham Omar, Chairman of CMCF said: “The message is clear: Think before you post, text, or produce content in the electronic media. If someone posts a comment on the internet that defies social norms and values, it will have long-term repercussions.”
