Two more Malayalam stations for UAE – report

Publishers of the two largest circulated Malayalam newspapers in India are planning to start new radio FM stations in the UAE.

According to Emirates 24/7, The Malayala Manorama Group and the Mathrubhumi Group will target the Keralite community living in the Gulf country.

The stations will be the first overseas broadcasting venture for both publishing groups.

Malayala Manorama Group runs Radio Mango 91.9 FM, which started in 2007 and Radio Club FM 94.3 belongs to the Mathrubhumi Group in Kerala, India.

But they’ll be entering a dynamic radio market where four Malayalam FM stations are already on air.

They are Hit 96.7 of Arabian Radio Network, Gold FM 101.3 of Channel 4 network of Ajman, Super FM 94.7 of Radio Asia group and Radio Me 100.3 FM.

The Mathrubhumi group has not set a time for the UAE launch of Club Radio FM but it’s thought likely to start from Abu Dhabi, where there is no Malayalam FM station as yet.
