Korean radio DJ loses cancer battle

40-year-old South Korean radio host, singer and actress Yoo Chae-yeong died on Thursday after a battle with gastric cancer, reports Korea Herald.

Known for her quick wit and self-deprecating humour, she became popular as a host for the show ‘Good Weekend, It’s Kim Kyung-sik and Yoo Chae-yeong’ on MBC Radio.

Chae-yeong was diagnosed with the disease last October and had stepped down from the programme a fortnight ago.

She was born Kim Soo-jin and took on the stage name Yoo Chae Yeong when she became a member of the popular K-Pop group ‘Cool’ in 1994.

She went solo in 1999 and also went on to appear in various movies and TV dramas.

Her agency 150 Entertainment told Korea Herald: “Her husband and family stayed by her side until the last moment. She did not leave any last words.”
