As Malaysia awaits a decision about the future of digital radio, a DAB+ Workshop in collaboration with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), is set to be organised in Kuala Lumpur from February 28 to March 4.

The first pilot DAB+ trials in were launched in 2009 in KL and currently, the sole DAB+ technology is owned and operated by the public broadcaster, RTM.

15 FM radio programs were made available, nine from RTM and six from the commercial radio stations.

In February 2013, RTM invited local agencies, members of the local radio industry and Telecoms Malaysia to a joint field trial study.

Attendees said the results looked promising.

Officials say efforts are now underway to gain familiarity, experience and confidence with DAB+ technology.

The DAB+ Workshop will cover DAB+ Digital Radio Overview and Services,Infrastructure System Planning, Field Measurement and DAB+ Results and Discussion.

In addition, KL will also be the venue for the Asia-Pacific broadcasting Union’s (ABU) Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2014.
