Astro Radio has ‘Waze’ to beat the KL traffic

Malaysia’s Astro Radio is partnering with smart phone navigation app Waze to enhance its traffic reports and improve the daily commute to and from the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Waze uses real-time GPS data from its base of 50 million users and delivers highly accurate and useful traffic and navigation information.

With more than 2 million active users, Malaysia ranks among the Top 5 largest Waze communities out of the nearly 200 countries it serves, according to figures provided by the start-up.

In a first of its kind partnership, Astro Radio will be the first local radio station to use Waze to bridge traditional media with social networks and crowd-sourced content to augment radio traffic reporting.

The radio network launched daily traffic updates across all nine of its stations namely Hitz FM, MIX FM, ERA, MY FM, Lite FM, SINAR, MELODY FM, THR Raga and THR Gegar FM in April.

Malaysians can also have the voice of Hitz FM breakfast host Ean Nasrun to navigate them on their daily commute through Waze.

“Our partnership with Waze is a perfect example of using technology to help improve the lives of our listeners,” says Jake Abdullah, CEO of Astro Radio.
