Astro Radio sees 9 percent growth in Q2

Malaysia’s Astro Radio has reported a year-on-year growth of 9 percent in its advertising income in the second quarter of FY 2015.

Its revenue rose from $20.25 million (RM 66 million) in Q2 of FY 2014 to $22.10 million (RM 72 million) in Q2 of 2015.

The growth trend continued with its share of radio expenditure from advertisers, which rose marginally from 55 percent last year to 56 percent this year.

Radio listenership also went up from 12.3 million listeners in Q2 last year to 12.6 million listeners in Q2 this year, according to the most recent Nielson survey.

The broadcaster’s owner Astro Group also reported a 12 percent growth in revenue, which stood at $800 million (RM 2.6 billion) against $710 million (RM 2.3 billion) in the second quarter last year.

The company’s Profit After Tax (PAT) was $81.6 million (RM 212 million) in Q2 of 2015, up by 25 percent from $65 million (RM 266 million) in Q2 of 2014.
