Did Era FM turn road rage aggressor into celebrity?

Malaysia’s Astro Radio stations ERA & HITZ FM faced the ire of some listeners after interviewing a woman who made the news for her raging meltdown following a minor road accident.

Kiki Kamaruddin allegedly almost physically assaulted an elderly man who caused a small dent in her car near her home in Kuantan, Pahang.

A video clip of her fit of road rage went viral and quickly gathered thousands of hits online.

Just as the matter seemed to be amicably resolved, ERA FM and HITZ FM interviewed Kiki on their morning shows.

According to local media, a stream of comments were posted on the stations’ social media pages including: “Stop treating her like a celebrity'”, “Thankful, that I am never gonna listen to your station again!” and “Boycott HITZFM!”

Media reports suggested that some listeners found it hard to accept that such road bully behaviour was showcased on the stations’ morning shows.

They also questioned whether the stations were taking advantage of Kiki’s dubious overnight fame for their own publicity.

Kamaruddin has since appeared on stations FlyFm, Hitz.fm and Era FM to apologise for her behaviour.

Last Thursday, she was arrested and detained by police in Kuantan.
