Astro Radio number one in East Malaysia

Astro Radio remains the leading radio network in Sabah and Sarawak in East Malaysia with 541,000 listeners, according to the latest Nielsen Radio Listenership Survey.

The company’s stations reach 82 percent of radio listeners above the age of 10 on Kota Kinabalu and 58 percent in Kuching.

Astro’s ERA FM, Hitz FM and MY FM continue to be at the top slot in their respective languages – Malay, English and Chinese.

All three stations’ breakfast and evening drive shows also continue to be number one.

ERA FM has total weekly listenership of 249,800 with 53 percent listeners below 30 years of age, followed by Hitz FM has 192,000 weekly listeners with 67 percent below 30 years old  and MY FM reached 137,200 listeners weekly with 52 percent of hem below 40 years.

The company has also been targeting listeners through a smartphone app called Raku and web players.

Dr. Jake Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Astro Radio said: “We have invested in Sabah and Sarawak, and our efforts in localization such as local artistes and radio hosts are paying off with a growing listenership and market share.  Our client base has also grown by 10 percent across different market segments.”
