Malaysia’s Astro Radio is inviting fans of the nine-station network to a mini football tournament, warming up to the World Cup in Brazil.

In collaboration with Revive Isotonic, ‘Rev-kan Your Padang’ (‘Rev up your football pitch’) will see radio personalities play against local celebrities, former national players and international football legend Teddy Sherringham.

Listeners can register their own team to play in the matches, and win a makeover for their local padang (field or pitch).

The chosen padang will be Rev-ed Up with A-boards, new nets for goal posts and the redrawing of lines on the field.

The network has put together an ‘All Star Team’ with announcers Adi of ERA FM, Jym of MY FM, Arnold from Hitz FM, Ram of THR Raaga and Gegar Shah of THR.

Led by Astro Radio CEO Jakeman, the team also comprises several Malaysian celebrities, including comedians Yus Jambu and Taukey Jambu of Maharaja Lawak, singers Black and Tomok, and former national football players K. Sanbagamaran and Shahril Arsat.

Dr Jake Abdullah, CEO of Astro Radio said: “With the world cup season coming up, everyone is passionate about football, and nothing is better than playing football in your own padang. Rev-kan Your Padang is about bringing back the community feeling and reviving a local padang to create togetherness for the love of football. I have coached the ‘All Star’ team, and we are ready to challenge you to an exciting football game!”

“Malaysians are avid football fans just as we are, and since it is football season, we are here to reach out to the fans at ground level. We believe that Rev-kan Your Padang will help communicate the intention of Revive Isotonic, Pepsi and Astro – as a team, in supporting sporting activities and healthy living, while bringing about awareness on the importance and value of giving back to the community,” he added.

The grand finale will take place on June 21.
