Stations remind listeners about Environment Day

June 5 was World Environment Day and stations across Asia came up with innovative ways to make their listeners more environment-conscious.

In Singapore, the logos of MediaCorp stations sported a green hue for 24 hours and the broadcaster brought back the popular Saving Gaia campaign, putting the spotlight on pressing environmental issues.

The group’s radio stations including Malay language Ria 89.7FM and Warna 94.2FM aired green tips and facts.

English language Class 95FM also did a series on fun recycling ideas shown through YouTube.

In India, various radio networks also took up various initiatives to make a positive difference to the environment.

92.7 BIG FM got its presenter in Kanpur, RJ Sid to broadcast from the banks of Ganges – the most sacred and also one of the most polluted rivers in India.

The show will last ten days and it will discuss attempts to restore the river’s cleanliness with listeners, local authorities, NGOs and school kids.

Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, Mumbai, invited the founding editor of an environmental magazine to its studios to discuss how environment can be saved.

Radio City gave away saplings to listeners across all the cities where it broadcasts and also aired tips to save the environment.
