The Smurfs help Star Radio Malaysia’s fundraising day

Malaysia’s Star Radio Group held its first integrated charity event on Saturday to mark the country’s Merdeka (Independence) Day.

The ABC Day (A Big Charity Day), organised by Red FM, Capital FM, Suria FM and 988, took place at Kuala Lumpur’s trendy new mall The Square, Publika.

As well as Star Radio DJs taking to the stage, other performers included the Maestro World Class Harmonica Ensemble, Rhythm Nation and K Town Clan.

Fifteen stalls selling food and gifts including books, toys and vintage items helped raise funds.

Games booths including The Giant Jengga were set up to entertain children.

Several characters from the movies Despicable Me and The Smurfs also turned up to help raise money.

Chan Fong from 988’s breakfast show Morning Up donated 100 copies of his recent best selling book City Heartbeat.

Two children’s homes, which provide shelter to orphans or youngsters from broken homes, will benefit from the US$8,000 (RM 27,000) raised.
