Radio station manager shot in the back

The manager of a local radio station from Barangay, in the Philippines has survived an apparent murder attempt where he shot in the back, according to The Inquirer.

54-year old Orlando “Orly” Navarro was returning home on a tricycle around midnight last Tuesday when he heard a gunshot.

He felt a thud on his back and realised he had been wounded.

Navarro works with dwLZ News Radio as a commentator and station manager and has been the president of the Pangasinan Press and Radio Club in the past.

The Inquirer reported that the bullet nearly pierced his heart and he had to undergo surgery to have it removed from his upper left

The police are investigating the shooting and suspect it to be the work of a lone gunman.

This is the latest attack on a journalist in the Philippines, where more than 20 media people have been killed since President Aquino took over the government.
