Radio DJs apologise to premier league club

Era FM’s morning show team has apologised to a Malaysian premier league club after making derogatory comments about the team’s performance.

The trio Johan, Ray and Hanif (Johara) angered premier league champions Sarawak – reports the Bernama news agency – after the side lost 1-2 to Perak in the Malaysia Cup.

The DJs dismissed Malaysian premier league sides as “cap ayam”, which means low quality.

They also suggested that Sarawak weren’t good enough to play in the Malaysia Cup.

Local fans turned to social media to express their rage at the Malay language station, demanding a boycott of the station and even making death threats against Johan and Ray.

Astro Radio, which owns Era FM, promised the DJs, who host the show Johara Pagi Era would apologise.

CEO Jake Abdullah said the trio would also be told not to make disparaging remarks about any team.

One political party suggested the morning show team be sent for a short course to remind them not to threaten national integration efforts.
