New chief for Macau’s public broadcaster

Starting March 1, Manuel Pires is set to replace Leong Kam Chun as the new President of Teledifusão de Macau’s (TDM) Executive Committee.

The public broadcaster runs two radio services and several TV channels.

Leong’s three-year term expires at the end of February.

Pires is currently the deputy director of Macau Government Tourist Office but has also held several positions with TDM.

Government spokesperson Alexis Tam told On Screen Asia: “From the nine members of the Board of Directors, Manuel Pires has the most experience in TDM. In 2001, he started as a part-time administrator in TDM and in 2011, he became chairman of the Board of Directors.”

Promising to do his best, Pires said: “I want to provide TDM with better conditions for production so that all departments and sections of TDM can better perform their duties as a media organization.”

TDM was established in 1982 during Macau’s Portuguese administration.
