Artists back out of Metro Radio’s beach gig

Canto-pop singer Kay Tse On-kei and two Hong Kong groups – RubberBand and C AllStar – have withdrawn from concert in Macau organised by Hong Kong broadcaster Metro Radio, reports the South China Morning Post.

The event was scheduled to take place at Hac Sa Beach on May 1 – the same day as Hong Kong’s annual pro-democracy march.

Last year, a similar concert featuring the group RubberBand was criticised for keeping young people from protesting.

Tse’s manager Sammy told the South China Morning Post: “After listening to Macau residents, we withdrew. We will be more cautious about what we sign up for in future.”

Ha also accused the organisers of printing a poster featuring Tse without approval.

Another group C AllStar said they just backed out as they had another commitment that day.

Daniel Chu Ming-yui, chief operations officer of Metro Showbiz and Metro Plus stations, told local media that there were no political motives behind the show.
