Media Prima sees radio profits rise 40 percent

Media Prima Radio Networks saw 2013 profit after tax (PAT) climb 39 percent from what the company described as a “favourable market environment”.

The owner of Hot FM, Fly FM and one FM saw profit rise to US$9.75 million (RM 32.1 million) compared to the previous year while revenues grew 16 percent to $22.1 million (RM 72.9 million).

Radio along with Digital Media were among the best performing  units in parent company Media Prima Berhad.

Digital Media saw revenue rise by 35 percent in 2013, attributed to the increasing take up of online advertising.

But Media Prima’s print business saw annual revenue decline by 3 percent, due to a drop in both advertising and circulation revenue.

Overall Malaysia’s largest and leading fully-integrated media group saw gross revenue rise around 1.5 percent to RM2.04 billion.

Profit After Tax and Minority Interest (“PATAMI”) grew around 2 percent to RM214.2 million.

Johan Jaaffar, Chairman of Media Prima said: “I’m very pleased to report the results for the financial year 2013 and we are well positioned for future growth. For the second year in a row, Media Prima recorded gross revenue surpassing the two billion-ringgit threshold despite the increasingly difficult operating environment”.

Amrin Awaluddin, Group Managing Director of Media Prima said: “Media Prima’s complete media offering and leadership position has enabled the Group to offer comprehensive, customised and integrated marketing solutions to the clients. Furthermore, our continued investment in compelling and relevant content across all our media platforms makes us the preferred choice for consumers”.

Amrin thinks 2014 advertising growth will come from major international events such as the FIFA World Cup, the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games and Visit Malaysia Year.
