Malaysia’s queen of traffic gets new job

M alaysia’s Star Radio Group has hired one of the country’s best-known traffic reporters in an attempt to boost peak-time listening to the company’s four stations.

Priscilla Patrick joined Star on Thursday after warning Malaysians about traffic jams on competitor Astro’s radio stations for the past 16 years.

She is known for her calming on-air delivery, said to be a boon to those stuck in jams, particularly in the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Speaking about her new role, Patrick said: “I don’t plan to clear traffic, but I do want to help people stuck in traffic. I do so by letting them know what they can expect ahead and what is keeping them in traffic. I encourage listeners to call in and share their travelling issues.”

She will produce the traffic reports for Star Radio Group’s four stations and will deliver them herself on Capital and Red FM during the morning and evening drivetime shows.
