Indian PM gets own radio show

India’s newly-elected Prime Minister is planning to reach out to more than a billion listeners with a show on the national broadcaster All India Radio (AIR).

According to DNA, Narendra Modi will host a programme that may be called ‘Man Ki Bat’ (Message from the Mind).

It will go on air at 11 am on October 3 and is likely to be a fortnightly or weekly programme.

The Prime Minister wants to have a direct talk with citizens over various issues over the 30 to 50 minute broadcast and may also answer their questions, according to an official.

AIR plans to translate Modi’s speech simultaneously into 24 Indian languages and there is also a proposal to make the broadcast available in 16 foreign languages.

AIR and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting also ran a logo design competition for the show, offering a prize of Rs $485 (Rs 30,000) and a certificate.
