RTHK widens search for Director of Radio

Hong Kong’s public broadcaster RTHK is broadening its search for a new director of broadcasting, reports South China Morning Post (SCMP).

Applications have been opened to candidates with a bachelor’s degree who are permanent HK residents with at least 15 years of media experience at a senior level or civil servants at grade two or above on the directorate pay scale.

While employees want their next boss to be chosen from within the station, all three station directors appointed since 2007 have been outsiders.

They include current Director of Broadcasting Roy Tang Yun-kwong, who took over in 2011 amid criticism that he lacked broadcasting experience.

The RTHK Programme Staff Union maintained that an internal promotion was in the public interest.
