Huge growth for Malaysia’s newest Chinese station

Astro Radio Malaysia’s newest Chinese-language radio station, MELODY FM, has grown its audience by 196 percent in its first year, according to the latest Nielsen Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) research.

Listenership rose to 397,000 in September 2013 compared 134,000 last September.

Melody launched in July 2012 and broadcasts to the Klang Valley (Greater Kuala Lumpur and towns and cities in the state of Selangor).

Astro says MELODY FM also grew its exclusive audience by 219 percent during the same period, but didn’t provide figures.

Another Astro-owned station MY FM also broadcasts in Mandarin and has maintained its position as the number one Chinese station in Malaysia, according to Nielsen figures.
