Melody FM launches first Hokkien show

Hua Hee Hok Kee La! That’s the name of Melody FM’s very first show in Hokkien language, which is widely spoken in Penang and other northern states of Malaysia.

From 4-8pm every weekday, radio personalities and native Hokkien speakers Linda Ang and Season Chee will host the show.

Melody, which is owned by Astro Radio, is dividing the four hour show into two parts.

Linda Ang, who will host the show’s first segment from 4pm to 6pm, is a famous children’s storyteller and the founder of Hong Jie Jie Workstation, a renowned educational children theatre troupe.

Season Chee will host the second half of the show from 6pm to 8pm. He is also involved in local theatre, frequently writing, directing and appearing in local plays.

“The launch of ‘Hua Hee Hok Kee La!’ was a decision made based on listeners’ input. We designed a show especially for the Northern region that offers more localized content and speaks the language of the locals,” says Jane Hiew, Melody FM Content Manager.
