HK residents produce their own radio shows

Fifteen original radio shows created with help of a Hong Kong government fund are airing on one of public broadcaster RTHK’s DAB digital radio channels this week.

The Community Involvement Broadcasting Service was set up to promote the production of radio programmes from within the local community.

Would-be producers were tasked with making shows about a wide range of social issues, such as the need for social inclusion, mutual respect, creativity and talent nurturing.

All ideas have gone through two selection exercises, including both public voting and assessment by the Selection Committee.

The programmes have been made independently but RTHK executives have been on hand to offer advice.

The 15 shows are being aired all this week from 8-10pm Hong Kong time on DAB Channel 31, mostly in Cantonese.  They are also available online and on the mobile apps ‘RTHK On The Go’ and ‘RTHK Cube’.

The Community Involvement Broadcasting Service is a three year project.
