Retro format change for Big FM Mumbai

One of India’s largest radio networks, 92.7 Big FM, has roped in Bollywood actor Annu Kapoor to host its new late morning retro show ‘Suhaana Safar’.

The movie star and TV presenter has joined Big FM’s Mumbai station Monday to Friday from 10am-12pm as the station changes to an all retro format.

Mumbai is following several other cities in turning all retro including Big FM in the capital New Delhi.

The show plans to cover what is widely believed to be a golden era for Hindi film music between 1955 and 1985.

The show launched in style last month with all-time acting favourites Asha Parekh, Vidya Sinha and Dheeraj Kumar reliving personal memories of some of their most celebrated blockbusters.

Kapoor’s movie career spans 30 years and more recently includes the critically acclaimed ”Vicky Donor’, a 2012 comedy-drama based around infertility and sperm donations.

He has also presented reality shows and a similar Bollywood retro show on TV.

“I would like to share my experience through the tremendous heritage of melodious music from 1955-1985 and untold stories and trivia which I have learnt while working with and interacting with great directors and producers,” Kapoor said of the new show.

92.7 BIG FM’s Business Head Ashwin Padmanabhan said Kapoor’s “credibility and knowledge of the retro period” made him the station’s preferred host.

Big, which is owned by Indian billionaire Anil Ambani, has stations in 45 Indian cities.
