India’s 93.5 RED FM’s saw a huge turnout for its initiative ‘Dabaa Ke Bajaa’, organised to help increase voter participation in the country’s general elections, taking place over more than a month.
The campaign, in association with the Election Commission of India, saw more than 10,000 people pledge to vote.
At an event held at Dilli Haat – a popular market in the national capital of Delhi on Tuesday – station’s RJs called upon visitors to promise to vote by signing on a canvas painted by street artists.
RJ Raunac, youth ambassador of the Election Commission in Delhi, also presented his anthem for the campaign.
A street play showcasing loopholes in politics while mocking several political parties received great support from the crowd.
Commenting on the event, Nisha Narayanan, COO, 93.5 RED FM said: “While we do seem to have sensitised Delhi towards their duty to vote, we have a long way to go, in terms of mobilising the whole nation.”
India’s election will be the longest in the country’s history, lasting until May 12.
