French station opens in Oman

Paris-based Arabic news radio station Monte Carlo Doualiya (MCD) was launched in Oman on Monday, according to the Times of Oman.

MCD, the Arabic branch of France Medias Monde group can be heard on 92.2FM.

Its presenters are Arabic-speaking French nationals and the programming will include music, news and subjects like politics, society, environment and health.

Some of its programmes like Gulf Hour, Health Forever and Life and People will discuss changes and developments in Omani society, its culture, economy, politics and social issues.

The station will also broadcast shows introducing its 7.5 million listeners across 13 countries to Oman.

According to Marie-Christine Saragosse, Chairwoman and CEO of France Medias Monde, the station will offer an international perspective to Oman with 80 correspondents across the world.

Clément Moutel, Counsellor for Cultural Affairs and Cooperation from the French Embassy added that it was also a chance for the MCD journalists to discover the Sultanate, which is at the crossroads between the Arab World, Asia and Africa.

Souad El Tayeb, Director of Monte Carlo told the Muscat Daily: “Our mission is to give right and balanced information to our listeners and we have no agenda behind it.”
