Dubai station sets record for highest altitude broadcast

Dubai’s English language radio station, Virgin Radio 104.4 has set a new record for the highest altitude radio broadcast.

The Arabian Radio Network (ARN) station broadcast the Kris Fade Show from the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa Dubai, to celebrate its fifth anniversary as the world’s tallest tower.

It was the first breakfast show of the new year and 750,000 listeners tuned in as DJs Kris, Priti and Big Rossi called out live on-air to get a pizza delivered at the record height.

The current holder of the highest broadcast is from  the 120th floor of the Willis Tower in Chicago.

Presenter Kris Fade commented: “Being the number one breakfast show, we wanted to set a new high and start 2015 with a record for the show.”

Steve Smith, COO, Arabian Radio Network, said: “Kris and the team from Virgin Radio Dubai wanted to do something that would get everybody’s attention hence broadcasting from the top of the world’s tallest building and breaking a world record should achieve this goal.”
