Dubai radio station gets a million listener interactions

Arabian Radio Network’s (ARN) only 24 – hour Malayalam Station in Dubai, Hit 96.7 FM achieved a record one million listener interactions for its 10th anniversary contest.

The station caters to Malayalis from the southern state of Kerala in India, who make up the largest expat community in the UAE.

Hit 96.7 already holds the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon for a radio music show for a 84 hr 15 min broadcast by its DJs Mithun and Sindhu in December 2013.

So on its 10th birthday, the station offered listeners a chance to try their luck at winning from a range of prizes including holidays to Switzerland and 2,500 sq ft of land in Cochin, Kerala.

According to the station, the contest saw tens of thousands of fans make a total of one million entries.

Commenting on the huge listener interaction, Mahmoud al Rasheed, ARN General Manager said: “This campaign shows the success of our strategy to develop stations that connect with every major community that lives in the UAE.”

Steve Smith, ARN COO added: “Staying connected and interacting with our audiences via social networking and SMS is crucial in radio broadcasting and Hit 96.7’s latest result with their 10-birthday celebration proves that this strategy is working.”
