China Radio Intl boss talks up 4G

As China’s mobile phone operators prepare to invest in superfast 4G mobile internet, key organisations from Chinese media held a forum on Monday to discuss the possible impact from the new technology.

President of China Radio International (CRI), Wang Gengnian delivered the opening speech at the session, held in Lanzhou in northwest China’s Gansu province.

According to CRIENGLISH.com, Wang said that with the development of information technology, using new media has become crucial for mass communication.

The impact of 4G on social life, reforming and renovating broadcast media with changing technologies were also among the themes discussed.

The session was also attended by the country’s top mobile operators including China mobile.

The companies have just agreed to share the costly investment in masts to provide 4G services to around 1 billion people, which will see the number of base stations rise from 200,000 to over a million.

According to its website, China Radio International has been exploring opportunities to merge traditional and new media to become more competitive.
