Nepal’s electric shock survivor turns radio host

Nepal’s Kamala Shrestha, an electric shock survivor who lost both her hands and one leg at the age of 10, is now a radio and television anchor, according to local media.

Shrestha was electrocuted while trying to pull a kite from a high voltage power line and went into a coma for three months.

The Nepalese government hardly supports people with disabilities and she was eventually helped by Rotary Australia, who arranged for her to get prosthetic limbs in Sydney.

Following her dream, she began hosting a radio program that focused on people with disabilities.

The show, which aired on Saturday afternoons on Capital FM 92.4 in Kathmandu, soon became popular among listeners.

She then went on to become a news anchor on Nepal’s Himalayan Television (see below).

Shrestha is a talented singer as well and has released a music album called ‘Kamalo Sapana’ with support from a New Zealand based NGO.
