Reliance Broadcast-owned BIG radio and TV are coming together to encourage the residents of India’s Bihar and Kharkhand region to celebrate an important Hindu festival in an environmentally friendly way.
Both 92.7 BIG FM and BIG MAGIC (TV) are running the ‘Big Green Durga’ awareness campaign over the next four weeks.
The two stations have set themselves the challenge of creating a gigantic idol of the Durga Pooja made out of newspapers collected locally.
Local artisans who create hundreds of thousands of figurines of the Hindu Goddess Durga for the festival have been criticised for using hazardous materials including toxic paints.
Demand for larger idols in recent years has also added to the problem.
A 9 episode special will run on BIG MAGIC TV along with a month long campaign on 92.7 BIG FM leading up to the festival, which starts on October 9.
