Why be an Idol when you can be a Super Singer?

India’s Radio City is inviting wannabe vocalists to its studios to audition for Super Singer Season 5.

The talent contest, which is being run across India,  is offering a prize of more than US$1,500 (Rs 100,000) and a chance to work with popular music directors.

For the first time, Radio City will accept uploaded auditions via a WAP site (http://myradiocity.in) from any mobile phone.

The station is planning several on-ground auditions at shopping malls and colleges.

Entries can also be submitted through social media.

In a similar vein to TV talent shows, station bosses say contestants will be shortlisted and given feedback by music industry experts to help improve their performances.

The final five across each city will fight it out for the title of ‘Radio City Super Singer’.

Apurva Purohit, Radio City’s CEO said: “Last year we had over 80,000 enthusiastic singers across the country registering & auditioning with us.  Moreover, this is the only singing talent hunt show in India that runs in 5 languages (Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada & Marathi) at the same time. The overwhelming success of the previous years not only justifies our aim but also makes us want to scale newer heights.”

As well as being given a music industry headstart, winners will be featured on Radio City’s Freedom Hour, a show dedicated to unplugged music on Radio City.
