Truce called in Sydney radio Facebook row

Sydney’s 2DayFM appears to have called a truce in its Social Media war with the station’s former breakfast duo Kyle & Jackie O’.

In a surprise message on their Facebook page, the new morning team Jules, Merrick and Sophie have posted a link to their rivals’ new show on KIIS1065.

The gesture follows a row about ownership of the Kyle & Jackie O’ Facebook page, which had tens of thousands of fans.

The dispute highlights the incredible marketing value of celebrities’ Social Media pages, which in this case was seen as vital in attracting fans over to their new morning show.

But the decision by 2DayFM owners Southern Cross Austereo to commandeer the page appears to have backfired.

Their new morning show hosts Jules, Merrick and Sophie have borne the brunt of listener criticism over the past few days.

So the trio posted this message to their Facebook page on Tuesday evening:

In response to their peace offering, audience reaction has been positive, with nearly 1000 likes to the message within a few hours of it going up.

Jessica Micallef: Very professional and kind of you guys. Thanks 2dayfm!

Lisa Thompson: You should be commended for trying to make a positive culture and community. Well done. You are showing that K&J are friendly competition. No rivalry needed between friends and fans.

Pamela Filsell: Wow what a gesture in a competitive ratings market well done guys hold your heads up high let the good times roll ps I luv luv luv MEL

Lauren Dimmock:  Loving the new breakfast show guys! Haven’t had 2Day fm on the pre set for years but back on there now. Just keep doing what your doing by not fighting back and your new listeners will keep on loving the new station

Kim Hite Schad: You got my”Like” with this class move… Shouldn’t be too hard to stay above the fray, and top of the ratings, with this refreshing approach! The very best to you ALL!

Another 2DayFM DJ Elle Mobbs also commented on the post, telling fans: “I’ve worked at 2DayFM for nearly 5 years. I’ve never seen such a fun, happy and positive vibe in our building. We want to continue the positivity on this page.”

Not all comments have been positive though, and some also mentioned that 2DayFM is deleting negative posts.

When Kyle and Jackie launched their new KIIS facebook page last week they suggested to their fans that they should make their dissatisfaction known to 2DayFM if they disagreed with the company retaining all the former Kyle and Jackie O’ fans.

In one post, a fan suggests “now just give them back their Facebook page.” Web guy Oscar responds that it’s up to Facebook.
