Thailand’s RS prepares for ‘Revolutionist’ year

Thailand’s RS has unveiled its annual business plan, promising that 2014 will see the entertainment giant become a ‘Media Revolutionist’.

The company which owns three radio stations –  Cool Fahrenheit, Cool Celsius 91.5 and 88.5 Sabaidee Radio – aims to bag US$152 million (5 billion baht) in revenue this year.

The company says its planning for an incredible 43 percent growth – around 73 percent of it – will come from its media business.

As well as its core TV asset Channel 8 and several satellite channels, RS plans to launch channels on Thailand’s new digital terrestrial TV network, to be launched in April.

The company says its radio station ‘Cool Fahrenheit’ will aim to remain the number one easy listening station in Bangkok, a position the company says it has held for over a decade.

Meanwhile, the company’s international music station ‘Cool Celsius 91.5’ which was launched last year, has begun airing Ryan Seacrest’s American Top 40.

88.5 Sabaidee Radio, a station dedicated to Thai songs for the whole family, is based on the success of Sabaidee TV.

RS sees similar growth potential for its music business and event operations in 2014.

Surachai Chetchotisak, RS’s President and CEO said: “Overall, the media industry this year will continue to grow, and the advertising spending on TV will grow as well. This is because of the change into free digital TV, which will give the audience more options. As a result, there will be fierce competition in terms of content, because only the best content will attract viewers successfully. RS, as Media Revolutionist 2014, will select the best content to offer our audience. As a company, we have to manage our income and capital well, so that our work goes according to plan”.
