Thailand: Three new English stations planned

Class Act Media, owners of Phuket Live 89.5, are to open a station in the Thai resort of Krabi.

To be launched in early 2014, the new channel will share content with the Phuket studio.

Popular shows such as Breakfast with Sam and Kirsty, and Drive with Jason Wilder will be networked, while the station will hire a Krabi-based DJ and manager to produce some of its own original content.

Class Act, which publishes weekly newspapers The Phuket News – in English – and the Russian-language Novosti Phuketa, will also extend coverage for both titles.

A Krabi supplement is planned for both papers.

Tim Newton, Broadcast Manager told Asia Radio Today plans are afoot for two other stations in Thailand, extending coverage to Koh Samui and Chiang Mai.

“These areas  have growing expat communities and the demand is there for new stations. Also, with so much tourism coming to the Kingdom, the local Thai population are speaking a lot more English language than before,” he said.

As well as local news, Class Act Media will also use the new radio hubs as a base to distribute some of our other core products like newspapers and our growing TV content in Thailand.”
