Live 89.5 back on air on FM in Phuket

Phuket’s Live 89.5 is back on air, four months after being shut down along with other stations in Thailand following the military coup in May.

The Class Act Media station resumed broadcast on September 17 after following a new ‘compliance’ program.

Live 89.5 told Asia Radio Today it is now the only English station broadcasting on the island out of four which were running before the coup.

Phuket’s longest-running English station Phuket 91.5FM have since told us they are making final preparations before returning to the air too.

The station has introduced some fresh voices as there was a shake up when it went off the air.

While earlier presenters Tim Shaw and Jason Wilder continue to be with the station, Phil Brandel from Australia has taken over the Breakfast shift and is also in charge of music.

Live 89.5 Station Manager, Tim Newton said: “We’ve emerged as the only English-speaking radio station on the island. That provides new opportunities and new challenges – certainly our music playlist will be updated to accommodate a wider listening audience and fill the gaps left by our past competitors. The phone and Facebook page just don’t stop with people so happy we’re back.”
