Stars of Chinese pop set for Singapore showdown

Some of the biggest names in Chinese pop music feature in the ‘Most Popular’ nominations list for Singapore Hit Awards 2014.

The annual awards are organised by MediaCorp and this is their 19th year running.

‘Most Popular’ awards nominees were shortlisted through a combination of Y.E.S. 93.3 FM’s ‘Pick of the Pops’ and SMS votes.

Two popular Cantopop artistes, Eason Chen and Khalil Fong will compete with Taiwan’s Show Luo, William Wei and Aaron Yan for top spot in the ‘Most Popular Male Artiste’ category.

Local singers Tanya Chua and Stefanie Sun, will contend in the ‘Most Popular Female Artiste’ with Taiwanese singers Jia Jia, Hebe Tianand composing artiste Wanting Qu from Mainland China.

This year, all the nominees for ‘Most Popular Group/ Band’ – F.I.R, Lollipop F, Sodagreen, Wang Fu and Mayday – are from Taiwan.

‘Most Popular New Artiste’ category sees 3 local nominees – Kenny Khoo, Kiat Goh and Abigail Yeo competing with Taiwan’s Dawen Wang and James Morris-Cotterill.

SMS voting for Singapore Hit Awards will commence on September 8 at 9.33am and will end on September 28 at 11.59pm.

The awards ceremony will be held on Friday, November 7 at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre.
