Recognition for longest ever radio drama

A Japanese radio station has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest ever live radio drama.

Kamaishi Saigai FM aired the audio play in December last year in memory of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan.

The tragedy led to a radioactive leak at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

The coastal city of Kamaishi in Iwate prefecture was badly hit by the disaster.

The drama lasted 8 hours, 23 minutes and 31 seconds.

According to the Japan Daily Press, the shows tells the story of an average corporate “salaryman” named “Abe Reiji” in the aftermath of the diaster.

The paper says the programme also included guest performances by Iwate Governor Takuya Tasso, among others.
