Rapists’ lawyer quits after angry response from Radio City listeners

Listeners of the Delhi station of India’s Radio City 91.1 FM responded to a challenge by the lawyer defending rapists on the death row and made him quit the case.

A.P. Singh, the lawyer of those involved in the brutal rape and murder of a 23-year old in December 2012, was speaking to RJ Ginnie on the station.

The case was in the news recently after a BBC documentary featuring one of the rapists highlighted his lack of remorse as he blamed the girl for the rape.

When RJ Ginnie asked Singh why he was defending the guilty, he cast aspersions of the character of women who stay out late and compared them to cabaret dancers.

He also claimed that the city of Delhi shared his opinion and challenged the station that if enough listeners contradicted him, he would quit the case.

This caused an emotional outrage among the listeners who reacted angrily and some even said that state they were scared that with men like these their daughters would never be safe.

More than 50000 Delhiites called the station wanting the lawyer to leave the case.
