Radio station chief abducted in Myanmar

Three masked men abducted the chief of a retransmission station of the Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) on Saturday in Muse, northern Shan state, according to local media.

40-year old Aung Zaw Tun, who had been working with MRTV since 1996, was abducted from his home on Saturday night and he has not been seen or heard from since.

As the government investigates the incident, MRTV Director General Tint Swe said that local administrators are searching for Tun in cooperation with the Burma Army.

It is believed that a member of the government’s broadcasting staff has been abducted for the first time in the region, which has seen a lot of military activity in recent weeks.

There are seven relay transmission stations scattered in Muse zone and staff from these stations have been moved to the main Muse retransmission station to ensure their safety.
