New York Festivals announces radio finalists

Fifteen entries from radio networks in India have achieved ‘finalist’ status in the New York Festivals  .

The GrandJury panel has also selected five entries from Hong Kong, 13 from Australia, nine from New Zealand, two from Taiwan and South Korea and one from the Philippines in the list of the World’s Best Radio Programs 2014.

Seven entries from US international channels VOA/RFA/Radio Sawa also made the finals along with several independently-produced programmes run on the BBC World Service.

.Overall 260 entries were selected 32 countries, which will proceed to the medal round to determine Gold, Silver, and Bronze trophies.

“Kya Woh Sach Thha – India’s first ever radio horror show inspired by true incidents” from Fever 104 FM India, was selected in the newly launched Sound Art category.

“The Unbearable 100 Millions for Hong Kong” from Radio Television Hong Kong is a finalist in the new category Travel and Tourism.

“Ethnic Conflict Erupts with Eve of Eid Crackdown: Tragedy at Aykol” from Radio Free Asia USA is also among the finalists.

RTÉ Networks Ireland led this year’s competition with 23 Finalists, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation saw 21 entries move forward, followed by TBI Media United Kingdom with 17 Finalists.

“The increase in entries shows that what we’re doing resonates with the international radio community as evidenced by the 37 percent increase in entries from 2012 to 2014,” said Rose Anderson, Executive Director, NYF International Radio Program Awards.

The winners will be honoured on Monday, June 23 at the annual awards gala  at Manhattan Penthouse in New York City.
