Mirchi marks World Music Day with live sessions

Raising a toast to the power of music, India’s Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM celebrated World Music Day on Saturday with special programming at its Mumbai station.

The day kicked off on Friday as RJ Suren and RJ Meera, who host the evening show ‘Sunset Samosa’, invited a renowned acapella group ‘RaagaTrippin’ into the studio.

The group performed live vocal-only versions of various hit Bollywood songs.

On Saturday, popular breakfast jock Jeeturaaj of ‘Hi Mumbai’ entertained local rap group ‘DopeadelicZ’

Hailing from Asia’s largest slum, Dharavi, the band is often feted for how – despite being a run down area – the mini-city still represents the spirit of entrepreneurship.

Later, RJ Sangeeta of the mid morning show ‘Dheemi Local’ hosted a musical rendezvous with three singing divas of the 90s – Anuradha Paudwal, Alka Yagnik and Kavita Subramaniam.

Academy Award winning musician A. R. Rahman, singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya and music director Lalit Pandit also featured in an exclusive segment to mark the day.
