Malaysian stations draw knives in DJ cook-off

DJs from two Star Radio Group stations cooked up a storm at a Kuala Lumpur shopping centre on Saturday for a chance to be crowned P.O.P. Cooking King of Malaysia.

Eight jocks from Suria FM and Red FM battled it out at the Radio Cook-off, a contest demonstrating the benefits of using palm oil.

Malaysia is the world’s largest exporter of palm oil, a major contributor to the economy.

Suria FM announcers Halim Othman, Linda Onn and DJ Lin together with Suria FM news reader, Haffiz were pitted against Red FM announcers, Lil Kev, Jeremy, Terry and Fiqrie.

Each team was given, approximately two hours, to prepare a three course meal; appetizer, main course and dessert with palm oil as one of the main key ingredients.

The Suria FM team presented Tabouleh as the appetiser, Nasi Arab Kabsa as the main course and Pudding Caramel Cinta as the desert while Red FM’s team prepared Pumpkin Soup as the appetiser, Salmon with Yellow Rice as the main course and Sago Gula Melaka as the dessert.

Malaysia’s first Masterchef Celebrity winner, Datuk Fazley Yaakob among others, judged the dishes and declared Suria FM DJs the winner.

“Not only that this is the very first cooking competition for us, but also a challenge that foregrounds the use and benefits of using palm oil in cooking. Most importantly, it will display the diversity of Malaysians’ food. ”said Kudsia Kahar, Star Radio Group deputy group chief broadcasting officer.
