Link: Radio’s answer to Spotify? Less variety

In a recent report,  describes how American radio stations, faced with increasing competition from digital music platforms, are playing less variety than ever.

WSJ quotes Mediabase, a division of the US’ largest radio network Clear Channel, that the top 10 songs last year were played close to twice as much on the radio than they were 10 years ago.

The report suggests that – more than ever – listeners appear to stay tuned for familiar song and tune out when they don’t recognise a song.
