New York Festivals® will honor the National Press Club with New York Festivals® Lifetime Achievement Award April 21at the inaugural NYF Storytellers gala taking place at NAB Show in Las Vegas.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes prominent industry leaders and driving forces in the broadcast industry whose accomplishment have advanced their field and made a lasting impression on the industry.

The National Press Club, since 1908, has been recognized as the World’s Leading Professional Organization for Journalists™. Through its doors have come presidents, premiers, kings and queens, Cabinet secretaries, senators and House members, movie stars and sports heroes, titans of business and finance – a who’s who of the 20th and the 21st centuries – eager to share their views on current events with the media and the public.

“For over a century, the National Press Club has upheld responsible journalism, supported freedom of the press world-wide, and provided a forum for the exchange of substantive ideas in our Nation’s Capital,” said Rose Anderson, VP/Executive Director of NYF’s TV & Film Awards/Radio Awards. “Their members’ commitment to excellence encompasses all media. In this year marking the centennial of radio and our inaugural Storyteller’s gala, we are proud to honor this organization with the New York Festivals Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Michael Freedman, President of the National Press Club will accept the 10th annual Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the organization.

Freedman served as general manager of CBS Radio Network, vice president and managing editor for the Broadcast Division of United Press International, a vice president and professor of journalism at The George Washington University, and journalist in residence at University of Maryland Global Campus. For the past 25 years he has executive produced the multi-award-winning public broadcasting series “The Kalb Report” with Marvin Kalb and has the distinction of having produced Walter Cronkite’s final programming for CBS News. Freedman and his teams have won more than 85 honors including 14 Edward R. Murrow Awards.

“The National Press Club serves as a beacon for press freedom and an indispensable platform to educate, inspire, empower and protect our nation's premier storytellers. Our goal, always, is to be accurate and fair and this honor from the New York Festivals will go a long way in helping all who cherish freedom to better understand why journalism matters. On behalf of our three thousand members around the world, we offer heartfelt thanks and a pledge to stay the course in search of light,” said Freedman.
