Jakarta station marks key holiday with new mums

97.4 U-FM Jakarta is celebrating a key date for women’s rights in the country by visiting new mothers who give birth on Kartini’s Day, April 21st.

The station has used Social Media to call for requests to pay visits to hospitals in the city to hand out merchandise, gifts and cash to women who give birth on the public holiday.

The station says it will visit several maternity wards on Monday to mark the occasion.

Raden Ayu Kartini was one of Indonesia’s historical heroines, active in the late 19th century.

She died aged 25 in 1904, when Indonesia was still part of the Dutch East Indies.
