Indian minister says media censorship impossible today

India’s Information and broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley believes that media censorship was not possible in the current age, reports NDTV.

Speaking at a function in Delhi, he said that the definition of news and the behaviour of consumer had changed with technological advancement and “something that camera cannot capture is hardly news these days”.

According to him, if news organisations don’t follow a realistic financial model, then imperfections and aberrations like paid news will enter.

Paid news has been a concern that even the Election Commission of India has been trying to address.

Jaitley said that rapid advances of technology in the broadcasting sector had brought their own challenges and it was difficult to predict the future.
