iHeartRadio launches in Australia

US media giant Clear Channel has made its internet radio platform iHeartRadio available in Australia and New Zealand.

This is the first expansion of the service outside of America, thanks to Clear Channel’s shareholding in Australian Radio Network (ARN).

The beta version will allow listeners to hear Australian stations online and build their their own stations according to their music tastes.

New Zealand and US stations will be added in September along with the mobile version of the site.

iHeartRadio also features 850 ‘Perfect For’ stations, designed for practically any mood or activity.

Another element, iHeartTalkRadio, allows listeners to pick a playlist of speech content from several radio sources.

“iHeartRadio combines the best of radio and digital, bringing together radio’s live and local relationships and the personal functionality of digital,” said ARN’s CEO Ciaran Davis.

“We are leading the radio industry into its next era and are excited to be providing this unique digital service to the Australian public for the first time.”
